Professor visits Louisville Water

The University of Louisville law school recently hosted a lecture by Professor Jim Salzman, one of the world’s preeminent authorities on drinking water law and policy.

Before the lecture, Salzman toured several Louisville Water facilities to learn more about our drinking water. At the Zorn Avenue pumping stations, Louisville Water President and CEO Spencer Bruce and Vice President Michael Tigue discussed a range of issues with Salzman and his colleague, Professor Tony Allen, including water pumping capacities, rates and trends in the industry.

From there the group traveled to the Crescent Hill Water Treatment Plant, where they learned about water quality concerns with Director of Water Quality and Research Dr. Rengao Song and his staff. The group also discussed the overall operations of Louisville Water with Director of Production Operations Larry Bryant and Vice President Tim Kraus.

There was a final stop with Strategic Projects Program Manager Kay Ball to discuss Riverbank Filtration and the similarities and differences between the Crescent Hill and B.E. Payne water treatment facilities.

According to Education and Outreach Manager Channa Newman, who helped with the tour, “Professor Salzman was very impressed with how Louisville Water faces the challenges of providing water to the city and surrounding distribution area.”
