Officers who provide safety services for Louisville Water projects provided an escort for the funeral procession of Louisville Water employee Jimmy Stone to Cave Hill Cemetery on Sat., July 27. Stone, a 17-year employee, was hit by a car on Mon., July 22 while repairing a hydrant at the intersection of 23rd and Oak Streets.
Stone’s crew truck and multiple Louisville Water vehicles were part of the procession. Along the route, various fire departments paid their respects by lining the roads with trucks and firefighters near the church, having firefighters standing at attention as the procession went under a large flag at Grinstead Drive, and providing a bagpipe player for the service at the cemetery.
Bows for Stone were placed around the hydrant at 23rd and Oak Streets. Louisville Water crews replaced the hydrant after the accident to complete the job started by Stone and fellow hydrant crew team member Chad Harper. Bows were also placed at the Louisville Water Allmond Avenue and Crescent Hill facilities as well as along Westport Road.
Harper was released from the hospital late last week and is recovering at home.
