Hydrate your Christmas tree, and yourself, too!

Many families go out and select a real live Christmas tree for their home every year. Whether chopping down a tree or picking out the perfect one from a tree farm, once it’s set up at home, there are some tips to keep it healthy and safe.

Proper watering of a Christmas tree is one of the most important things families should make sure they do. Christmas trees love to drink Louisville Pure Tap™ too!

Here are a few tips:

  • Christmas trees need a lot of water, so be sure to get a tree stand that can hold at least one gallon.
  • Cut off the bottom half-inch of the trunk. This removes any hardened sap and allows the tree to easily absorb water.
  • Add a quart of water to your tree stand for every inch of the trunk’s diameter.
  • Keep the bottom two inches of the trunk immersed in water.
  • Check the stand every day and refill as needed.
  • Christmas trees prefer cooler temperatures. Place your tree closer to a window, away from radiators and fireplaces.

And while you are watering your Christmas tree, don’t forget to hydrate yourself too. Many people associate dehydration with hot, humid summer days. But you can still get dehydrated in cold weather and it’s important to drink plenty of Pure Tap. Also, cold air has less humidity, and dry air can lead to dehydration, dry skin, and irritation of the throat, nose, eyes, and lungs during these cold months. Drinking water can help combat these symptoms and keep your body healthy all year round. Here are few things to keep in mind:

  • Some people are less thirsty in cold weather, so they drink less water. But just because you aren’t thirsty, doesn’t mean that you’re hydrated.
  • Layer your clothing. Wear layers of breathable fabrics instead of heavy-duty woolens to minimize water loss caused by perspiration.
  • Don’t use sweat as an indicator of dehydration because people sweat less in cold weather.
  • Drink water and replenish fluids, especially after or during physical activity.
  • Consider setting a timer that reminds you to drink Pure Tap throughout the day or set a schedule for when you grab a glass, like with meals or on the hour.
