Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer presented the Keepers of the Dream Freedom Award last month to civic leader William Summers IV, a member of the Board of Water Works (the governing body for Louisville Water).
First presented in 1988, the award recognizes Louisville residents who have dedicated their lives to promoting justice, peace, freedom, non-violence, racial equality, and civic activism.
Summers participated in the civil rights movement, working at his father’s radio station, WLOU (The Original Soul of Louisville), and became the first Black executive at Greater Louisville Inc. He also served in various roles in state and local government, including Deputy Mayor for more than 20 years.
